An In-depth Study on Supporting Cultural and Recreational Activities for School-Age Children with Severe Disabilities

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify and suggest ways to support the efficient participation in cultural and recreational activities by individuals with severe disability. First, a preliminary research on current conditions of cultural and leisurely activities available was conducted through an analysis of written records and documents, in conjunction with parents interview designed to fulfill possible research limitation associated with the preliminary analysis and identify essential support required for these students to successfully participate in extracurricular activities. The conclusions of this study are as follows: First, financial aid must be provided. Second, a professional organization especially designed to address particular needs of school-age children with severe disabilities must be established. Third, a facility with an accompanying program that focuses exclusively on cultural and leisurely activities for this population must be initiated. Fourth, the support of local governments must regulate the above through the establishment of an institution.
